Superhero costumes have been around for many, many years.
Costumes representing the most recognizable superheroes like Superman,
Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man and
Hulk were readily
available for kids to dress up for Halloween.
You
could find their costumes and others at your local K-Marts,
Wal-Marts or drug store
chains and the costs were very feasible for most families to adorn
their children in.
Since the 1990s, the costumes that are produced have become more and
more elaborate and very accurate to their comic book, television and
motion picture characters that they are meant to portray.
Not
only are kids into dressing up, but teenagers and adults as
well. Superhero costumes are meant for people of all ages.
In
recent years Halloween has surged passed Christmas as the most
popularholiday in the United States. More and more people
celebrate Halloween than any other holiday.
Dressing up in superhero costumes not only for Halloween, but for
other events and occasions have become very commonplace in our
world.
People are dressing up for comic book conventions, toy conventions,
attending movies and sporting events and going to parties.
Some people like dressing up when going out at night to eateries, clubs and
other social gatherings.
Some people are actually dressing up as real life superheroes patrolling
the streets like their favorite heroes do in the comics and movies
and TV.
Some people have gotten into superhero costumes so much that they have
gone out of their way to producing their own costumes from
scratch.
They find their creative juices flowing when trying to make a
costume that hasn’t been produced or to produce ones that are available in
stores or online which are not to their standards. So they
want to make them even better.
They enjoy going to craft stores, jewelry stores, fabric stores,
clothing stores, hardware stores and picking up pieces to
manufacture their own costumes by hand.
Some of the handmade costumes are even better than the ones that are
produced by businesses whose main function is to manufacture them
for sale.
Collecting superhero costumes has also become a hobby in of itself.
People love to collect and what great fun it is to collect costumes
of their favorite heroes and characters.
There’s a strong bond for fans who have worn a costume and retaining it
in
their collections. The great memories of having dressed up in the costume and
being photographed or filmed in them and to showcase and display it
for your family and friends for years to come is incredible.
Having attended many conventions it is amazing to see some of the
wonderful outfits that fans and people in general have been able to
create.
I’ve seen some who’ve made their own wings, head gear, malice, chest
plate and armor, et al to create DC hero Hawkman for example.
I’ve seen some who’ve created their own wings from a set of window
blinds and painted them to simulate the wings of the Marvel character the
Falcon
(Captain America’s partner and Avengers team
member over the years).
I’ve seen some who’ve made claws forged out of real metal, with mask and
a spandex costume to create Marvel’s mutant tough guy Wolverine.
With so many different companies
producing various props like Captain America's shield, Batman's
utility belt, Thor's hammer or Green Lantern's lantern, all add to
the wonderful life of superhero costuming and collecting.
Companies are eager to produce various helmets and masks of a
plethora of comic book heroes and it's so hard to satisfy the great
demand.
With some of those weapons and props mentioned above and many, many
others that are produced, there's really no reason why anyone cannot
make their favorite hero's costume.
There’s no shortage of characters that are available for fans to
dress up as and some have used current existing costumes to modify
and customize for their own hero ideas.
A
lot of fans have been adorning themselves as characters directly
from the movies like Neo in the Matrix or Legolas from the
Lord of
the Rings.
Of course there is a huge throng of fans who love to create their
own Star Wars characters such as Darth Vader, Stormtrooper,
Boba
Fett, Han Solo and Princess Leia.
Star Wars is by far the most popular theme for folks to dress up as
and the fans who are so much into the myriad of characters from the
greatest space film of all enjoy creating the costumes from
beginning to end.
Forging helmets and armor and casting body leggings and arms and
building weapons, it is absolutely amazing how detailed
some of the costumes have become. It’s as if Lucasfilm had their
own factory to manufacture the Stormtrooper outfits for fans to
purchase.
There are dedicated squadrons or legions in every market area around
the globe representing the various Stormtrooper ranks.
Of course Star Trek is not far
behind in its devoted fan base who have been dressing up in their
favorite character's uniforms like Captain Kirk, Spock,
Sulu, Dr. McCoy, Uhura, Chekov,
Scotty, Captain Picard, Data, Geordi LaForge
and the gamut of characters from the many Star Trek series that have
been made over the decades.
The dedicated Star Trek conventions are a great way for their fans
to come together as one and they have certainly been in well
represented at the many other venues which are noted above.
Thankfully there are many great outlets for the general public to
purchase costumes from without having to spend inordinate amounts
of money.
Not
all fans have the talent, the know how and the funds to go all out
and make their own costumes. They require the services of the
costume manufacturers to produce the outfits for them.
Reviewing various online sites, one great source to tap into is
online retail giant Amazon.com.
Amazon not only has great buying power with the ability to purchase
goods directly from manufacturers, but they also have quite a few
sellers who have their own e-Stores that sell their goods on
Amazon’s site.
This is a great way for customers to view multiple selling price
points and to compare. There’s plenty of historical and purchasing
information for each listing so you will have that at your disposal
when deciding on who to buy from.
Many buyers have added their own individual review of the product as
well so you have even more information to help you make the right
choices.
Amazon typically backs those retailers/sellers 100% so although the
sale goes to those parties and not Amazon, the fact that they are
selling on Amazon is like buying from Amazon themselves.
In
some cases Amazon does the order fulfillment and shipping for those
retailers/sellers that cannot.
You can rest assured that your transaction is safe when purchasing
from these businesses who have their store front there.
I have provided a variety of direct links and photos to various
costumes, masks and props for both children and adults so you too can be a part of
the growing trend of costume buyers.
I tried to keep it toned down with regards to publishing products on
my site as there are some costumes that are very much adult oriented
and not suitable for all buyers.
I realize that there are kids who may be doing to the browsing
before they are able to get mom and dad’s approval to purchase the
costumes, so the products that you see here are keeping in line with
making your visit on my site appropriate for all.
For
those who like the more upscale/revealing costumes you can easily
click on any the links and do more and more searches to find those
outfits if you are interested in them.
The various links on my page is by no means
anywhere near the full amount of items that are available.
Amazon always has suggested or related items in each product
that you click on so you can get other ideas and you can review
those as well. If you don't see what you're looking for here,
once on Amazon you can see even more items.
It’s all great fun to browse and find costumes you’ve never
even thought of.
It’s never too late to find a costume even if Halloween may be just
around the corner or has passed.
Dressing up in superhero costumes is not limited to that holiday as
it is a year round thing.
Have fun and enjoy.
Happy Collecting!!!
